Point at the notch
Rest the pointer on the notch and it opens, with your pages and tools in reach. Move the pointer away and it closes again. ⌥⌘I opens it from the keyboard.

Click a tool
A click does the job: Timer starts counting down, Screenshot captures an area of the screen, Dictate starts a dictation into the app you're in.

Hold a tool for its options: Dictate opens Quick Controls, Screenshot offers a window, the whole screen or just the text, and Timer any length you like.

Everyday tools in your notch.
Everyday Mac tools at the top of your screen: click for the job, hold for more, and keep the ones you use most on Home.
Home
Your dashboard: a widget for each thing you use most, arranged and sized your way, from 29 to choose from. Click Edit Widgets to rearrange them right in the notch.
Music
What's playing in Apple Music, with its controls, and synced lyrics if you turn them on. While a song plays, a small strip around the notch shows it; point at it for the details. Finding the cover and the lyrics goes online, and each has its own switch in Settings ▸ Notch ▸ Music - lyrics stay off until you turn them on.
Screenshots
Click Screenshot to capture part of the screen; hold it for a window, the whole screen, just the text, or a delay. Each capture drops out of the notch: drag it into any app, or click it to mark it up.
Clipboard
Turn on Clipboard History and everything you copy is kept on this Mac. Click a clip to paste it into the app you're in, or drag it into any app.
Timer
Click Timer to start a countdown - 5 minutes at first, then the last length you used - and watch it on the notch. Hold it for lengths from 1 to 60 minutes a click away, or a dial for any other. Stopwatch sits right beside it.
Color Picker
Click a colour anywhere on the screen and it's copied as HEX. Hold for every format - RGB, HSL, OKLCH, Display P3 and more - its contrast with black and white text, and the last 25 colours you picked.
Speak anywhere you can type.
Dictate, translate and fix text in any app. Speech is recognized on your Mac, in 100+ languages depending on the speech model you pick.
Click Dictate, or hold the right ⌘
Click Dictate in the notch, or hold the right ⌘ key, and speak. Your words land wherever you were typing, in any app.
While you speak, the notch shows Dictera listening in the colour of what you're doing: white for plain dictation, green when cleanup tidies it, purple for a translation, amber for an edit. Then three dots while it works, and a tick once your words are in.
Translate as you speak
Double-tap the right ⌘ key and speak in your language; what lands is a translation into one of 29 languages.
Fix the text you've selected
Double-tap the right ⌥ key to fix the grammar, spelling and punctuation of selected text in place. Hold the right ⇧ key and say what to change. Hold the right ⌥ key and a translation drops out of the notch on a card, already copied.
Quick Controls
Hold Dictate, or press ⌥⌘C, for Dictera's voice features as tiles: switch each on or off, and pick its languages and models.
Get help on any call.
An assistant for calls, meeting notes and chat, all a click from the notch - and no bot in your call.
The Assist panel
Press ⌥⌘H, or click the AI Assistant button in the notch, and the Assist panel sits beside your call, listening to both sides. Press Answer for a suggested reply to the last question. It answers on its own only once you switch Auto on.
The Meetings page
Record a call from the Meetings page in the notch. No bot joins it: Dictera hears both sides through macOS, and when you stop, it writes the meeting up as notes, full minutes, a transcript or chapters.
The Chat page
Double-tap the right ⇧ key and the notch opens on Chat, ready for a question. Add a picture of the screen if it helps.
Each runs on the AI engine you pick for it: the built-in model, a server you run, or a cloud provider only if you choose one.
A countdown to your next meeting
For the last 5 minutes before a meeting, the notch counts down to it. Point at it to join the call or record it. When Dictera asks whether to record a meeting and nobody answers, nothing is recorded. Your calendar is read-only to Dictera, and connecting it is up to you.
Your notes and chats stay out of your screen share.
Chat and Meetings are kept out of screen sharing, and the notch and the Assist panel are hidden from it until you choose to show them.
In apps that respect the window privacy setting in macOS. See acceptable use.
Works without a notch
On a display without a notch, Dictera draws one that looks and works like the real one. Or choose the Pill, which floats just below the menu bar.
Private by design
Speech is recognized on your Mac and never uploaded. Online features send only what they need, to the service that needs it, and each can be switched off.
- Speech is recognized on your Mac. Dictation, the AI Assistant and meetings are transcribed here, and your voice is never uploaded. What they write goes to a cloud AI engine only if you choose one.
- No account, and no analytics in the app. There is nothing to sign up for, and the app has no analytics or tracking code.
- Online features, named. The weather (Show the Weather), song covers (Find Cover Art Online) and synced lyrics (Synced Lyrics, off until you turn it on) go online, and each can be switched off in Settings ▸ Notch. Recognize Song goes online only when you press it.
